František Raboň is going to change his team after six years under one team with several different names. Following the HTC-Highroad disband, the Czech rider has decided to sign a two-year contract with the Omega Pharma Quick Step.

His new manager Tony Rominger helped him enormously in finding a new employer. He believes that he will have more space in the new team and will be able to prove not just his domestique skills. He is going to get to start at the Tour de France and he will also meet his old Czech friend Zdeněk Štybar.

Despite the unfavorable situation in the professional peloton he could choose from many offers. “Many teams approached me and I specified my conditions. Only my new employer was able to meet them,” stated František Raboň who also took over a new Subaru car from his personal sponsor. “One of my requirements was to secure my future for two years. The financial part of the contract was also important to me but the offers were pretty much the same.”

“Another important factor of my contract was my position in the new team. I´m considered to be a good a domestique and I want to keep doing that but after having talked to Patrick Lefévre I have a feeling that I could have a free hand at many races and I could finally ride the Tour de France. I´m very tempted to ride the Tour, of course, after having ridden the Giro six times in row and I hope I won´t show up for that Italian race for at least three years as I was having nightmares for a long time after this year´s edition,” Franky added.

The Czech billionaire Zdeněk Bakala is the co-owner of the Quick Step team but he isn’t  the one who selects the riders. “Many think that the Czech Republic is a tiny country and everybody knows everybody but that is not the case,” Raboň added. His teammates from HTC-Highroad Peter and Martin Velits, an excellent time trialist Tony Martin but even a mechanic, masseur, doctor and two sports directors were hired by the Quick Step as well. “I believe that as far as the gear is concerned, the team will reach the highest level just like the HTC-Highroad did. The Velits brothers have signed a third deal in three different teams during the last six years so they are making fun of us that we´d better start looking for a new team for 2014,” Raboň joked.

He was negotiating mostly with the Quick Step and Astana where he was tempted by his friend Roman Kreuziger. ”Roman put in a good word for me in the Astana team. We talked about it and one day I did receive an official offer from them. I liked the idea of riding in the Astana team because  I´d be eager to learn two more languages: Italian and Russian. The deciding factor was a one-year contract that they offered me,” Raboň revealed. “I´m sorry not to be able ride with Roman but I hope that one day we will meet in a team and it could be right in the Quick Step,” Raboň added.
